Drink spiking can happen so quickly that you might not even realise it’s happening. That’s why it’s important to know what to look out for—both for yourself and your friends.
According to Drinkaware, some people use drugs known as “date rape drugs” that can make someone drowsy, confused, or even unconscious.
Watch out for these signs:
Feeling “too drunk” too quickly – way more than what you’ve actually had to drink.
Sudden dizziness or confusion – struggling to stay balanced or think straight.
Nausea or blurred vision – your body just doesn’t feel right.
Blackouts or memory gaps – even after only a small amount of alcohol.
Difficulty speaking or moving – your body not doing what you want it to.
If you think someone’s drink has been spiked, stay with them, keep them safe, and get medical help straight away. Tell bar staff, security, or the police as soon as you can.
Remember: it’s never the victim’s fault. Knowing the signs means you can step in early and help keep yourself and others safe.
